Bonsack Food Pantry
We operate as an extension of the Southwest Virginia Feeding America Food Bank serving Botetourt county, Roanoke county, and areas as far east as Bedford. It is through the efforts of dedicated volunteers that those in need get help providing food for their families.
About the Food Pantry
Feeding the hungry is one of the most basic acts of human kindness. It is also one of the most basic acts of gospel witness. In James 2:16, the brother of our Lord says, “If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” This is why every Thursday morning, a group of volunteers gathers in the Bonsack Hall to distribute food to people from around the Roanoke Valley who are in need.
“We normally have about 50 volunteers working all during the week. We pick up surplus food items from Food Lion at Blue Ridge six days a week; we pick up meat at Krogers two days a week, and we pick up produce when prices allow each week. Once a month, we order dry goods, frozen food, and refrigerated food from Feeding Southwest Virginia.” - John Leftwich, Pantry Director
