Bonsack Baptist Church, located in Roanoke, Virginia and surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, is a large church with a history of excellence in Student Ministry. Each year, the Bonsack Baptist Student Ministry looks for two energetic and motivated people to serve as 12-week Summer Student Ministry Interns. Preference is given to someone who has completed at least his or her junior year of college and who is considering, or committed to, a call to full-time ministry. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a vibrant and active Student Ministry in a large church, hone and even discover new skills, work in a multi-staff ministry environment, earn extra money, and have a great time!
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
Build meaningful relationships with students with the goal of pointing them towards Jesus. People matter most so we list it first.
COORDINATING AND PLANNING
Work with the Student Minister in planning and implementing the summer/fall student calendar.
ADMINISTRATION
Learn the administrative side of Student Ministry by assisting the student minister with office work such as: computer work, organization of materials, programming, event registration, event promotion, budgeting, background checks, and more.
STUDENT CHOIR TOUR
The intern will participate and help plan, implement, and chaperone a student choir tour to Philadelphia, PA.
SUMMER CAMP
The intern will participate, help organize, and chaperone our youth camp in July.
YOUTH WORSHIP
Based on the particular gifts and abilities of the intern, she or he will be given the opportunity to preach or lead worship at student worship gatherings.
PLANNING, PREPARATION, AND LEADERSHIP IN YOUTH VBS
Bonsack has a very vital and successful Youth VBS program with over 90 Students in attendance. The interns will be expected to provide leadership and planning, especially for the activities.
HELPFUL SKILLS
The intern’s helpfulness and effectiveness will be enhanced by the following skills:
A disciplined, independent self-starter who can complete assigned tasks; computer skills (including PowerPoint, Excel and Word); experience with young people; the ability to work effectively with students and parents; a desire to learn.
HOURS
The Student Ministry intern will be expected to work at least 40 hours per week for approximately twelve weeks during the summer (mid-May to mid-August, negotiated to allow time between completing their spring semester and beginning their fall semester at school). There will be some negotiated allowance for personal or family vacation time. The daily work schedule will be structured to coincide with weekly student activities. The student intern will be expected to play an active role during scheduled youth events.
SALARY
The intern’s salary will be $3,000 for the summer. If this person is not from the area, Bonsack Baptist will provide housing at the home of a church member(s). Personal transportation is necessary and a requirement. Any student activity or event that requires participation fees such as camps, retreats, mission trips and fellowships will be covered through the student ministry’s annual budget.
